Design & Colour

Can you match my colour scheme?
The colours on the website give an indication of the final colour on your plate. Firing of ceramics causes slight variations and the settings on computer display monitors vary, therefore an exact colour match cannot be guaranteed. However if you cannot see a colour similar to your scheme we may be able to find a colour to coordinate. Please contact us with your requirements. Please note there will be an additonal fee for custom colours.

Do you offer custom designs?
Yes we can do custom designs, (subject to there being no copyright restrictions). Please contact us with your ideas and we will be glad to work with you. Please note there will be an additional charge for custom designs.

Greetings Plates

What is the pen for and how does it work?
The pen is used to write directly onto the plate. This allows your family and friends to add their own personal message to the plate. The pen contains special ink that will become permanent after being heated in the oven for 35 minutes at 150C. Instructions for use of the pen are included with your order.

Can I use just an ordinary pen or permanent marker ?
No. The pen contains special ink that becomes permanent when baked in the oven. Ordinary pens will not give the same result. We recommend you order a spare pen just in case one of you guests accidentally takes it away.

Can I get more pottery pens in black or other colours?
The pen in the kit is black. You can order additional pens in black, red or blue.

Is the pen easy to use?
Absolutely - just like writing with a felt tip pen. It drys in about 10-20 seconds so you can avoid smudging other signatures. If necessary you can also rub out any mistakes with a damp sponge or tissue. Full instructions are included in the kit.

What can you do if someone makes a mistake?
You can easily wipe of writing or smears with a damp tissue. Full instructions are included in the kit.

What size of plate should I get?
We give an approximate guide to the number of signatures on the plate design page. However there can be lots of variation in the size of handwriting and some people may write messages. Consequently we cannot guarantee the final number of signatures.

Can we write everywhere on the plate?
Yes. You can write anywhere on the plate, so if necessary or even just for fun guests can also sign the back of the plate.

We think we need a bigger plate, have you got any larger plates?
Sorry no. A 40cm plate is about the largest that will fit in a standard oven. For larger weddings we suggest you have more than one plate. You could have separate plates for children and adults. Another suggestion is separate plates for day and evening guests.

What do I do if my plate is broken?
Regretably all ceramics are breakable if not handled carefully. We obviously will not be able to replace any signatures or personal messages you have added to your piece. To reduce the chance of breakage at the party we recommend you have a host to take responsibility for looking after the plate plate signing and returning it to its box after everyone has added messages.

Caring for your Pottery

However we recommend that the greetings plates are hand washed.

Other items can be cleaned in a dishwasher.
