Helping Children Develop Learning Skills

According to Brian Sutton-Smith, a play theorist, a child is born with a brain that has great potentials. If it is left unused, then it will eventually die. That is why during the early stages of childhood, kids must learn various skills that will be useful for them when they become adults. As a parent, it is then your responsibility to help them develop those abilities. The first challenge you will face is guiding them to gain knowledge through their senses. It is through sight, smell, sound, touch, and taste that they can enhance their academic aptitude. Talking and listening to them is two of the best ways that children can be educated at an early stage. In addition to those, you must incorporate different types of activities that can further enhance their brain development as well.

  • Cooking gives your little ones the opportunity to use their hands and nose. Baking bread, for example, will allow them to experiment with their sense of touch and create something that is edible. The wonderful aroma that would come out of will surely tickle their sense of smell. Of course, their taste buds will also be tested when they sample the finished product.
  • Creating pottery and other forms of art will enhance your kids creativity. Most of them will find great joy in making something visually pleasing, and something that will last for a long time. Also, the experience of working with clay would be unforgettable for a young mind.
  • Taking them to the beach will delight all their senses. They will surely enjoy the feel of the sand beneath their feet or with their hands as you build a sandcastle. The scenery that awaits them such as the clear, sunny skies, and the blue waters would be pleasing to their eyes. Then, there is also the salty smell of the sea that will probably make them wrinkle their noses. The sound of the waves would be music to their ears as well.

It is up to you which activities you choose. But make sure that you allow them to learn new things both inside and outside of your home or the school room. The more experiences they gain, the quicker they will be able to improve their competence.
